The Project:

A well-designed app that I enjoy almost daily is Procreate. It's easy and intuitive to use, and they've done a great job making it memorable.

According to Krug, "Memorability can be a big factor in whether people adopt an app for regular use." (pg. 159) I've tried some drawing apps where it was difficult to start drawing, it was hard to find a drawing tool, colors were hard to select, and straight lines seemed impossible.

With Procreate, they've created easy-to-follow icons, a compact canvas, and easy-to-remember and follow features.

UX Research and Study:

I learned the importance of navigation and consistency from the video "5 Design Tips for Mobile App UI" by Zco Corporation, which I believe this app does well. There isn't a lot of spacing; however, it's easy to navigate, see where you're going, and what you're picking.

The icons are easy to identify for a knowledgeable art audience, like an eraser, gradients, rotate, and snap. The un-do function is also important because it's a two-finger double-tap that is the same as other drawing apps. I like this feature a lot, and I'm happy it's across the other drawing programs I use, such as Clip Studio Paint and Medibang Paint.

This app fits nicely under Krug's "Apps need to be learnable" (pg 157) list.
